The arrival of the xDefiant
What is xDefiant?
XDefiant is a free-to-play first-person shooter with a focus on customisation and team collaboration. With its wide variety of factions, game modes and maps, it promises to be a Call of Duty-like game that will stand up to Activision.

XDefiant game modes
XDefiant, the new FPS from Ubisoft, blends elements from games such as TFT, COD and Overwatch to offer a unique gaming experience. xDefiant brings us five different modes, divided into two types according to gameplay style: Arcade and Linear. Below, we explain each of them so that you can get to know all their particularities.
Arcade Modes
Arcade modes in XDefiant are characterized by maps with different types of routes. This allows players to rotate and take strategic cover. Here are the three game modes available in this category:
- Domination: In this mode, players must capture and hold three control points on the map for as long as possible while defending these points from the opposing team's attacks. The team that accumulates the most points at the end of the time wins the game.
- Occupy: With some similarities to Domination, but with a key differentiating element: there is only one capture zone that constantly moves around the map. Players must move quickly from one point to another to capture the new zone. The team that holds the captured zone the longest gets points and wins the game.
- Hot Shot: This mode is inspired by Call of Duty's ‘Kill Confirmed’ mode. Players eliminate opponents to make them drop an emblem. The opposing team must collect these kill badges to score points. The team that accumulates the most points at the end of the time wins the match.
Linear Modes
Linear Modes in XDefiant are long maps with a start and end point, and with limited rotation points, which make for a better gaming experience. Here are the two game modes in this category:
- Zone Control: This mode combines elements of Domination and Occupy. There are five zones that players must capture or defend. The objective of the attacking team is to progress and liberate these zones in sequence. The defending team, on the other hand, must stop the attacking team from capturing the zones.
- Escort: Inspired by game modes such as pushing a payload in Overwatch, players must escort a robot payload from the starting point to the end point, passing through several capture points in between. Attackers must ensure that the payload reaches the end goal, while defenders must prevent it from doing so.
